As the founder of Willis CC, Stephanie Willis has maintained a strong emphasis on accountability, innovation, collaboration, and global citizenship within the practice. Stephanie WIllis,
LCPC, CADC, Illinois
As the founder of Willis CC, Stephanie Willis has maintained a strong emphasis on accountability, innovation, collaboration, and global citizenship within the practice. At WCC, therapy is more than just being listened to—it’s about being challenged to take uncomfortable steps in order to live a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Her experience in the Chicago-land area includes work in non-profits, hospitals, and wilderness programs before establishing Willis CC. Stephanie’s passion for leading her team is grounded in the belief that the therapy and psychology fields have often left consumers with limited, outdated options and little emphasis on customer service. WCC is changing that every day with how it operates on all levels.
Early in her career, she specialized in working with high-risk adolescents addressing issues like self-injury, gang involvement, and drug use. She has significant experience in wilderness therapy and leading World Cafe consultations for communities. Her expertise with adults focuses on perfectionism, stress relief, addiction, cultural struggles, faith and spiritual development, and relationship stress.
Stephanie strives to view her guests through an open and respectful lens, understanding how their cultural background, sexual orientation, and spiritual or political preferences may influence their worldview. Her therapeutic style is broad, utilizing evidence-based interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Family Systems, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Directive Observant Feedback.
She often works with business owners, senior management professionals, and other healthcare providers. Her work ranges from helping clients with major life decisions to supporting young professionals navigating corporate stress, and educating other leaders on evidence-based approaches to improve their industry.
At Willis CC, she has led her team to integrate modern culture into therapy. This involves establishing a group approach that is all-inclusive and leverages technology as well as feedback. The entire staff collaborates as a team, regularly asking guests for feedback on their therapist, the clinical process, and the effectiveness of their therapy. Stephanie believes that if therapy doesn’t become uncomfortable at some point, or if challenging risk-taking isn’t happening outside of sessions, then either the therapy or therapist needs to change.
The team at Willis CC works openly with one another so that guests can benefit from the skills of different therapists when it’s beneficial. They prioritize guests’ needs and values, aiming to inspire radical change that allows guests to move forward and live that life change, rather than needing therapy indefinitely.
Her passion for supervising and developing other clinicians led to the Willis CC training program, where staff and other professionals receive formal experiential training. Graduates of the program gain exposure to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and World Cafe-style leadership, focusing on both clinical investment and personal development. Stephanie travels internationally, presenting and consulting with other professionals and organizations, and is currently accepting proposals for collaborative work.

He is passionate about clinical work in both Illinois and New Mexico.
In his previous roles, Sean applied his expertise in residential and nursing home settings, helping people with severe and persistent mental illnesses and providing one-on-one counseling to older adults. Through his experience, he has found that simply sharing what’s on one’s mind with someone who cares and listens can often lead guests to change their perspectives and consider solutions to problems that once seemed unsolvable.
Most guests describe him as approachable, down-to-earth, and capable of balancing an understanding of both employee issues that lead to mental health challenges and everyday challenges that impact relationships. He works with EAP referrals and commercial insurance, understanding both short-term goals in therapy and trauma-informed care that may lend itself to longer-term goals. Sean also serves as a supervising social worker for other team members at the practice.
At Willis CC, Sean is excited to work with guests experiencing anxiety, severe mental illness, grief, or stagnation, though he appreciates the variety of people and situations he encounters. Guests value his sincerity, listening skills, and his recognition that while change is often necessary, it can be a difficult and scary process. Originally from Waukegan, IL, Sean enjoys long-distance running, reading, and solving crossword puzzles.

Quote:
“‘Go to therapy’ is not enough. We need to understand that the colonial soul wound requires medicine Western therapy cannot give us. These ‘schools’ are conditioned to brainwash us from remembering our roots, the historical harm, and our true healer: each other. We need us.” – Dr. Jennifer Mullan, Decolonizing Therapy: Oppression, Historical Trauma & Politicizing

She’s worked in agency settings since graduating college and enjoys helping people make forward progress in their lives. She describes those times as challenging and rewarding, as each person she’s worked with has taught her something valuable as a therapist.
In her view, the most important thing for a therapist to do is to be themselves while building a relationship with a guest and connecting with them on a human level.
When not working, Gwen can be found hanging out with her two cats, Rascal and Salem, or visiting her pup, Tyrion. She loves to travel and finds planning the trip one of the best parts. She currently serves as a program manager with the same organization. She has also spent several years working with children and families, including a few years jump-starting a daycare program and implementing best practices there.

Even if ambivalent at first, it will be their shared goal to work through any difficulties and towards the goals a guest sets. Her sessions are client-centered, and she always meets guests where they’re at. When necessary, however, she’s not afraid to offer the feedback and pushback guests may need at times to further their journey.
