Email about Tera

Tera Gurney is a licensed clinical social worker who earned her master’s degree in Social Work at New York University after earning her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Michigan State University. As a therapist, she wants to create a space where guests never feel judged and always feel supported, understood and listened to.

Previously, Tera worked assisting birth and foster parents at a child welfare agency, parents and caregivers in a non-profit program, and birth parents exploring adoption. She also provided supportive counseling and educational workshops to young adults who experienced sexual assault. At Willis CC, she’s excited to work with young- and middle-aged adults who are hoping to feel heard and hopeful.

Guests who know Tera best would describe her as supportive, humble, and motivated. While she believes in offering guests insight and perspective, she seeks to allow them to steer the ship as she guides them along—always moving at a pace the guest feels comfortable with.

A Michigan native who lived in NYC for nearly a decade before moving to Chicago, Tera has two young children and an adopted dog named Zeus. In her spare time, she can be found listening to podcasts, checking out different breweries and coffee shops, exercising, and enjoying family-friendly activities with her kids.

“Perfection is not the goal.”
