Email about Joanna Varghese

Joanna is a Licensed Clinical Social worker who moved from California to Chicago 5 years ago to attend the University of Chicago. Born in India, her culture & being a woman of color has had a big impact on her identity – inspiring a passion for working with individuals from communities of color, where mental health has often been stigmatized.

She values genuine & sincere relationships, scholarship, faith & the human condition. Some of the most impactful experiences in her career have been dealing with grief & loss issues as a palliative care social worker as well as working with individuals & families during crisis situations as an ICU social worker.

As a therapist, Joanna most prioritizes the therapeutic relationship between the guest & clinician. Through it, she is eager to help people who are looking to gain insights into their lives, going through transitional stages, having interpersonal issues with others, experiencing any sort of loss &/or are interested in developing a mindful approach to stressful life situations.

Joanna’s approaches to therapy are oriented in Mindfulness, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Insight-Oriented Therapy, Family/Relationship Systems & Crisis Intervention Strategies. Joanna believes that whether you are looking to change your behavior, develop problem solving techniques, learn more about yourself, or just need someone to talk to – there is a place for everyone to learn & grow in therapy.

Outside of the WCC studio, you might find Joanna at a different studio – Orange Theory. She enjoys watching sports, though remains loyal to the LA teams. She is currently accepting guests at our Wicker Park studios.
