Helen Aw, BA, MEd, LPC
Helen Aw is a licensed professional counselor who earned her master’s degree in Counseling at DePaul University after earning her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from North Park University. Ultimately, her desire to facilitate self-understanding on a deeper level spurred her to become a therapist.
Helen’s experience includes providing training and feedback for high-stakes medical licensing exams, providing career advising and counseling to students and alumni at a college career center, and managing the day-to-day operations of an English proficiency testing center. At Willis CC, she looks forward to working in partnership with young adults to release their authentic ways of being through self-reflection and self-love.
Helen loves being a therapist because, as Rumi said, a therapist helps remind you that you can “look for the answer inside your question.” She employs a collaborative, supportive, and challenging approach, seeing her role as being a guest’s mirror, enabling their capacity to notice their internal thoughts and feelings, then understanding them constructively and compassionately.
Born in the Philippines and raised in Chicago, Helen can be described as thoughtful, thorough, and sincere. Her favorite film is Amelie, she can climb a rope upside down, and her favorite game is Bananagrams. In her free time, she loves running, playing her ukulele, and reading poetry.
