Gwen Clancy, LCPC
Gwen Clancy graduated with a B.S. in Sociology from Illinois State University & a masters from St. Xavier University. Gwen believes that is important for guests to know – that being in therapy doesn’t make a person “bad” or “weird.” Everyone has difficulties in life & therapy can be a safe place to explore & overcome those challenges.
She’s worked in agency settings since graduating college & really enjoys helping folks make forward progress in their lives. Her experience ranges from working with substance abuse, domestic violence, runaway/homeless youth & supervised residential for youth & those who have severe mental illness & are trying to re-integrate into the community. She describes those times as having been challenging & rewarding, as each person she’s worked with has taught her something valuable as a therapist.
When working with guests, Gwen primarily uses Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) & Motivational Interviewing, though also enjoys using role playing so guests can practice setting boundaries, becoming more assertive & advocating for themselves. In her mind, the most important thing for a therapist to do is to be themselves while building a relationship with a guest & connecting with them on a human level.
When not working, Gwen can be found hanging out with her 2 cats, Rascal & Salem, or visiting her pup, Tyrion. She loves to travel & finds planning the trip one of the best parts. In her downtime, she likes to read or binge-watch shows on Hulu. Guests experience her as down to earth, good sense of humor, not afraid to take things to a new direction, and overall very informative and fresh in her views. She is currently accepting new guests at our Wicker Park Studio.
